The Glaze hides several types of colored slip, blue on her shirt, rutile stripes on her legs and tail, and iron on her hair.

Kiln mishap! Katt's tail did not provide adequate support, and soft clays like Jamaican Black can sometimes bend before they break. She leaned backwards, and someone's vase caught her

The glaze on the vase fused to Katt's ear very solidly. I couldn't just break it, because it could have broken at any place along the length of her ear, or worse yet, her neck (very fragile neck!)

Ear/vase bond from behind. The particular glaze on the vase is called "Moe's Blue-Green" and is notorious for being "runny", although in a situation like this with one piece resting against another, ANY glaze would have acted as glue.

I broke one grinding wheel without making more than a scratch before a fellow student pointed out that nothing less than a diamond blade would do the job. With half an hour of dremel work, ear and vase were separated

Katt rests her ear, now free from the vase and only slightly marred. The vase survived with some scarring, which its owner can cover up with a re-glazing.
