 Oxide

Once she came out of the bisque firing, after getting over my inital shock that nothing had broken off, I painted her skin with magnanese oxide (I think... or was it a carbonate?)

Notice the dramaticly lighter areas of the dry bisque-fired clay. The dark areas are painted with manganese oxide

At least, i think it was manganese oxide. I really need to write these things down. There are a variety of oxides and carbonates, including iron (red), cobalt (blue), copper (green), chrome (also green), rutile (tan) and a few others.
